This remoteness may be due to the communicative distance between Spanish and Portuguese, or to the feeling of sharing a context with little connection to Latin American identity processes. Therefore, studies linking Brazil and the rest of the Spanish-speaking nations are of vital importance, studies that should start from the knowledge of the individual history of these states to continue towards a joint history.
Oswaldo Suin Guaraca Copyright (c) 2024 2024-12-25 2024-12-25 63 119 123 Editorial https://publicaciones.ucuenca.edu.ec/ojs/index.php/anales/article/view/5712
In a world facing the climatic abyss, social and financial chaos, the predatory globalism of politics and the lack of historical awareness of humanity, a new volume of the journal Anales de la Universidad de Cuenca is released, full of critical texts and essays on national and universal culture. We present contributions selected for their magnificent writing quality, vision of the future and healthy skepticism, regardless of the orthodoxy or heterodoxy of their postulates.
José Luis Crespo-Fajardo Copyright (c) 2024 2024-12-25 2024-12-25 63 4 5 Sócrates Quintana, cult of sports and artistic sensivity at the beginning of the 20th century https://publicaciones.ucuenca.edu.ec/ojs/index.php/anales/article/view/5713
Sócrates Quintana stands out for the successes achieved in the exercise of various sports modalities in the
second decade of the 20th century in Madrid. At the same time, he began to cultivate painting and drawing
applied to the editorial and poster industry, where he also won some awards. This paper studies Socrates’
career in athletics, football, fencing and mountain sports; it shows that this physical activity was not isolated
from his artistic activity; and exposes the connections of different natures that occurred both facets.
José Manuel Rodríguez Álvarez Copyright (c) 2024 2024-12-25 2024-12-25 63 7 22 Simmel and Murakami: death as a central thread running through the novel Tokio Blues https://publicaciones.ucuenca.edu.ec/ojs/index.php/anales/article/view/5714
This article aims to analyze the novel Tokio Blues (Norwegian Wood) by Haruki Murakami taking in consideration Georg Simmels and Macedonio Fernández theoretical contributions: death as a topic in particular -as a configurating principle of life- and art, music specifically. The suggested approach is to consider death tied to life, not as a contrast, to leave aside interpretations that consider birth and death as two points in a timeline. Furthermore, art (taking into consideration the multiple songs that are mentioned through the novel) is addressed as a life enabler, a conscious escape to avoid death. As a significant timeless matter, art allows life to elevate authentically and above itself, and to the “I”, to be beyond life experiences. It also relieves existence, so we do not settle in life.
Miranda García Spriegel Copyright (c) 2024 2024-12-25 2024-12-25 63 23 31 A new Ut pictura poesis: The three musicians. Towards the absolute artistic creation of Picasso https://publicaciones.ucuenca.edu.ec/ojs/index.php/anales/article/view/5715
The equation between the different arts is a question that has been debated since ancient times. It was Horacio who best addressed this problem with his verse “Ut pictura poesis”, relating painting to poetry. In this sense, when studying Picasso's classical period, beyond noticing formal and iconographic references between the works of antiquity and those of the artist, the recovery of this classicist locution may be more interesting, to which will be added the role of music, to show one of the artist's ambitions, that of establishing a fusion between immediate or spatial arts, such as painting, with temporal arts such as music and poetry. He will do this through cubist conceptual reinvention, the best example of which is found in the version of The Three Musicians located at the MoMA. Likewise, this exercise, in addition to demonstrating the continuity of cubism during the "classical" stage of the artist, would imply the integration of the arts and the path towards absolute artistic creation. In this practice, reflection on the passage of time and nostalgia will have great relevance.
Álvaro Gómez Suárez Copyright (c) 2024 2024-12-25 2024-12-25 63 33 47 Malintzin, stereotypical character of women in Mexico from the Viceroyalty to the 21st century https://publicaciones.ucuenca.edu.ec/ojs/index.php/anales/article/view/5716
This article seeks to establish a relationship between the social construct of the stereotype of women in Mexico and the character of the Mexican story Malintzin; who is constituted as a national, living and vulnerable symbol of the feminine in the Mexican national collective thought throughout the history of the nation. To do this, it begins with a historical reflection of the context in which Malintzin lived, continues with a description of what Malintzin represented in the 20th century, and ends by exposing what is happening in our current society. Likewise, it is invited to make a final reflection on what would be required for all citizens, in each of the areas, to have the same opportunities.
Itzel Sánchez Vargas Pamela S. During the dictatorship (1973-1990), he was exiled in France. In this article, we aim to analyze the relationships between the life trajectory of the texts by the author studied and interviewed and modes of writing guided by criteria that, inspired by authors such as Mariátegui and Marx, imbue heterodoxy and heresy as a mode of reasoning with a prism of Latin American philosophy in the context of his exilic extension, resulting in radial writing, particularly in his exile and return from France to Valparaíso, Chile. To this end, we have developed the concept of “exilic extension” through which we understand exile as a social and political phenomenon with antecedents and projections traced in Fernández's writing.
Jaime Villanueva Donoso Copyright (c) 2024 2024-12-25 2024-12-25 63 61 73 Between Alchemy and Science Art: Let's Give Voice to Things https://publicaciones.ucuenca.edu.ec/ojs/index.php/anales/article/view/5718
The research focuses on how science art has changed under the influence of the philosophy of science and socio-cultural attitudes towards scientific knowledge in Russia. The closure of several vital galleries and the opening of new spaces reflect broader political and social shifts. Science art projects typically combine scientific methods and artistic experiments, often challenging traditional boundaries and exploring interdisciplinary innovations. Recent exhibitions have shifted their emphasis from philosophical themes to technological ones, mirroring contemporary trends in art and science. This article examines the evolving landscape of science art, its intersection with technology, and its implications for understanding human cognition and the complex problem of consciousness.
Stanislav Milovidov Copyright (c) 2024 2024-12-25 2024-12-25 63 75 88 Visual Culture and Hygienic Pedagogy in the Editorial Design of Croatia and Mexico (1930-1940) https://publicaciones.ucuenca.edu.ec/ojs/index.php/anales/article/view/5719
Humanity has faced significant challenges since the early 20th century due to epidemics and infectious diseases. Proposals from hygienists and public health policies solidified hygiene practices as essential for promoting good habits and preventing diseases. This includes personal hygiene, household cleanliness, and proper food handling. Hygienic and sanitary measures and educational campaigns in print media were implemented to improve the population's hygiene habits.

This research aims to identify and interpret persuasive tactics in editorial design promoting hygiene and public health, comparing case studies from a cross-cultural perspective from Croatia and Mexico between 1930 and 1940. The study takes a newspaper approach, analyzing periodicals and commercial advertisements in newspapers and magazines from both countries. It demonstrates that design was crucial in promoting public behavior and implementing health norms and practices.
Carolina Magaña Fajardo Copyright (c) 2024 2024-12-25 2024-12-25 63 89 102 The Multiverse: A Gamified Adventure for Teaching Literary Arts with a Sociocultural Perspective https://publicaciones.ucuenca.edu.ec/ojs/index.php/anales/article/view/5720
Literature, as an artistic manifestation, enhances the understanding and decoding of cultural contexts. Thus, the aim of this study is to improve the appreciation of Ecuadorian literature and reading comprehension through Gamification and Problem-Based Learning. A game was developed on the Classcraft platform, inspired by comic multiverses and based on Un Idilio Bobo by Ángel Felicísimo Rojas. Using an experimental design and a sociocritical approach, mixed methods were applied, including observation, interviews, and tests to evaluate the results. The findings indicate a significant improvement in the aesthetic appreciation of the work and in reading comprehension at the literal, inferential, and critical levels. Additionally, advances were observed in skills such as empathy, collaborative work, communication, and problem-solving. These strategies are adaptable to various subjects and educational levels, provided they align with students' interests and needs.
Patricia Curay Correa Paúl Ricardo Zaruma Pinguil Diego Apolo Buenaño Copyright (c) 2024 2024-12-25 2024-12-25 63 103 117
