Abstract

This study on voodoo metaphysics is part of the reflections on the ontology of blackness; that is, what characterizes being Black, marked as it is by slavery and persistent racist oppression. Our gaze must detach from the North American ideology that distorted the religiosity and Haitian thought to turn it into a Hollywood pastiche. When we approach without these prejudices, we see the Haitian voodoo philosophy appears in all its dimensions, characterized by ontological difference and continuity, unity and duality, the swinging relationship between individual and community and the conception of the individual formed by a mirror image.
