Bite me! The use of food in contemporary artistic expressions

This article studies the links between food and contemporary art, discovering the most recurrent iconographies and themes that touch on different issues in various fields, such as anthropology, ecology, feminism, sociology, activism, postcolonialism and psychoanalysis. It presents possible readings of 20th and 21st century works that use food as a theme or creative material. It is an interdisciplinary analysis of the different representations of food. The aim is to demonstrate the importance and relevance of the debates that such works open and highlight the necessity of the further investigation of the subject.
