Abstract

From the perspective of the rest of Latin American countries, Brazil seems disconnected and distant, like the unknown member of a restricted Spanish-speaking group. This remoteness may be due to the communicative distance between Spanish and Portuguese, or to the feeling of sharing a context with little connection to Latin American identity processes. Therefore, studies linking Brazil and the rest of the Spanish-speaking nations are of vital importance, studies that should start from the knowledge of the individual history of these states to continue towards a joint history.
