Objectives: to determine the frequency of bacterial infections caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus in clinical isolates from patients of the Santa Ana Clinic, Cuenca 2021 - 2022.
Methods: descriptive cross-sectional study, in a population of 835 positive cultures between 2021 and 2022, with their respective identification and antibacterial susceptibility tests, the data were collected using a form developed by the authors; the tabulation and data analysis was performed in the IBM SPSS Statics 25 free version statistical program, and Microsoft Excel using simple and crossed tables.
Results: of the 835 cultures studied, 9.82% were S. aureus strains, 51.22% were MRSA, 78.60% were isolated in secretion samples, being predominant in patients aged 27 to 59 years 47.62%, in both sexes with 50%; and 54.76% of cases of community origin.
Conclusions: the greatest number of bacterial infections caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus occurred in outpatients, with a higher frequency in adults between 27 and 59 years of age.
