Closure of oro-nasal fistula with anteriorly based lingual flap: A case report

Oro-nasal fistulas are common sequelae following palate reconstruction surgery in patients with a history of cleft palate; some of these fistulas can cause symptoms in affected individuals. The anteriorly based tongue flap
has proven to be an ideal surgical alternative, demonstrating high success rates in patients. Reconstruction aims to replace tissue with simple techniques ideally in early stages to avoid facial growth alterations and speech problems. The choice of surgical procedure depends on the size and location of the fistula, as well as the available tissue. In this regard, various surgical approaches are employed, with the lingual flap being preferred in complex cases due to its lower incidence of complications and the good aesthetic results it offers. The aim of this article is to present a clinical case of the surgical correction of an oro-nasal fistula in a 16-yearold patient using an anteriorly based lingual flap.
