"Bocapelo": vocal labyrinths at the service of instruments

Abstract

The choral ensembles in Ecuador continue in a constant process of evolution to show actually a lot of possibilities beyond a traditional vocal ensemble. It has seen a development for both in technique and in its presentations, transcending the reproduction of hits within music’s national scene as well as Latin American scene towards the composition, adaptation and a permanent search for new sonorities from traditional instruments of Ecuador. This article takes the self-denominated vocal band "Bocapelo" as object of study to search deeply into the vocal technique used to simulate instruments.
