Abstract

This article analyzes a pedagogical-artistic experience developed at the CETAD 12 Pasos Center in the city of Cuenca during 2025 with adolescents and adult women undergoing rehabilitation processes related to problematic substance use. The research problematizes the reduction of art to recreational or occupational functions within therapeutic contexts and examines how artistic practices can operate as devices of symbolic mediation and knowledge production. From a Participatory Action Research approach, storytelling workshops based on puppet creation, collage, and ceramics were implemented in articulation with situated pedagogical processes. The qualitative analysis of the visual, narrative, and material productions revealed that artistic practices fostered processes of self-representation, symbolic elaboration, and subjective reorganization of experiences that are difficult to verbalize. The findings highlight the need to position artistic practices in rehabilitation contexts as pedagogical tools capable of producing knowledge about subjective experience.
