The creative moment: the pedagogical value of Portuguese artists biographical testimonies
Abstract
In this paper, a set of events and practices that contribute to the creativity of Portuguese artists graduated from the School of Fine Arts of Porto between the 1960s and 1970s is identified. For this purpose, ethnographic interviews were carried out with 28 artists, who presented their artistic journey since college, as well as a set of methods and tools applied in their artistic process. Whenever possible, these interviews were conducted in their studios, allowing the direct observation of practices adopted in their creative process. This group of artists, many of them retired professors and researchers in art and design but still dedicated to artistic activity, allowed us to collect data on artistic practices, for a period of more than 5 decades of creativity in Portugal.
