The reading contract in video art
Abstract
The reading contract provides the viewer of video art the parameters for their participation in the enunciation of meaning. This implies recognition and interpretation of the references, inferences and contextualization; it also implies a second interpretative reading, post viewing, which orders and integrates the signs of the video in a unitary and coherent whole. The generation of meaning in video art is an exercise of shared power that repositions the creative act as the founder of a universe of meaning. The expected participation of the spectator, incorporated in the reading situation, is essential for the identity of the video, as a discourse and status, highlighting its character of construction that carries with it its own symbolic frontiers. The analysis of the reading contract in video art identifies and defines the role of its discursive resources, contributing to the understanding of artistic communication and the creative foundations of video art.
Keywords: Video art, reading contract, enunciation, discourse, meaning.
