Exvotos between the spiritual and the Identitarian. The survival of its forms for new LGTBIQ+ perspectives

Mexican votive altarpieces with anti-academic and popular characteristics are a visual space of resistance and identity that gives voice to subaltern societies. Homosexuals, transgenders, lesbians, transsexuals, transvestites find in the altarpieces made by Alfredo, Hugo, José Luis, and Daniel Vilchis a testimony of the miraculous rupture of the abject through the votive image. Identity and spirituality are found within the visual narrative of miraculous homosexual love represented in these images that reappropiate the forms of the historical votive alterpieces. With the purpose of reusing its symbolic meaning in favor of new LGTBIQ+ readings.
