The renewed language of the sacred in the arts: Three ways

Abstract

 Due to the progressive secularization that the art world has experienced since the Enlightenment, we have witnessed a rejection of the traditional language of the sacred that apparently seems to indicate a disappearance of all expression or manifestation of the spiritual in art. But throughout modernity and post-modernity we have been able to observe various codes or demonstrations susceptible to religious, or in any case spiritual, interpretation. Which lead us to think that this rejection has not meant a disappearance of the term as such, but rather that it has camouflaged behind new forms of expression and manifestation in the arts. Following the theories of Mircea Eliade and his proposal of the Permanence of the Sacred in contemporary art, we become aware of three ways or approaches in various movements and artists that are examples of these new forms of communication and representation of the new-sacred.
