Abstract

The article begins with the identification and justification of the key elements in the normative discourse define the concept of “Social and Solidarity Economy” in Latin America, after making a comparison with the extrapolated concept of “social economy” used in Europe. Subsequently, the “Social Economy and Solidarity” is analyzed from the prevailing social praxis that is determined by the daily practice, and two types of practices differ: a more institutionalized and more instituting. The interesting thing about this analysis are the differences between these two types of practices in the cognitive levels (meanings), evaluative (attributions of value) and pragmatic (behavioral praxis). Finally, a number of attributes and potentialities of “Social and Solidarity Economy” from the perspective instituting aims to become hegemonic alternative to the market economy are cited. Through this explanation, links between the “Social and Solidarity Economy” and other concepts, such as social exclusion, social participation are established, etc.
