Building indigenous and solidarity-based socioeconomic territories in Mexico: the complexity in the cooperative life of UCIRI
Abstract
The experience of the Union of Indigenous Communities of the Isthmus Region (UCIRI) has been very significant both in the mexican and the global fair context. With more than 40 years of organized struggle around organic production, transformation and fair marketing of coffee, is relevant analyze it from the multidimensional - territorial, economic, political, social, cultural, environmental and gender perspective. Complex thinking allows us to contribute elements on the scopes and limits of the diversity of intertwined, intertwined processes. The construction of the territory and solidarity as a socio-economic alternative, both processes being part of the indigenous practice and way of life, have been very present in the experience of the UCIRI. Yet, despite its community efforts, the structural injustice of savage capitalism has permeated and insistently struck the history of the UCIRI.
