Cognitive deterioration, depression and stress associated with chronic diseases in elderly adults, Cuenca 2014.

ABSTRACT
Objective: To determine the prevalence of cognitive impairment, depression, anxiety and its relationship with chronic diseases, of the older adults of the IESS Support Centre in the city of Cuenca.
Methods: Cross-sectional study carried out to 398 older adults, the sample was randomized, after the signature of informed consent, data were collected through: interview and application of various instruments, to identify: Demographics, cognitive impairment, geriatric depression, stress, and morbidity. For the analysis of the data, the SPSS version 15 program was used, establishing the statistical relationship between the study variables.
Results: the prevalence of mild cognitive impairment was 3.5%; of mild depression 10.6% and depression marked 2.3%. 78.9% of older adults showed some degree of stress; arterial hypertension was the most frequent chronic pathology with 50% of the cases. The relationship between osteoarthrosis and depression was statistically significant (p <0.05).Conclusions: In the elderly, cognitive impairment and depression had a low prevalence (3.5%), while stress involved at 78.9%; two pathologies: osteoarthrosis and acute myocardial infarction, were significantly related to depression and Stress
