Abstract

The new coronavirus pandemic affected emergency consultations for surgical pathologies during its initial activity peak in 2020. Appendicular pathology reported an increase in prehospital delay during the pandemic. Likewise, a change towards a greater proportion has been described. of cases of complicated appendicitis. The objective of our study was to determine the complicated non-traumatic surgical pathology treated at the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital (HVCM). The methodology consisted of a descriptive, cross-sectional and observational study through the review of 373 medical records of patients treated for abdominal pathology in emergency at the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital during the period March - September 2020. Results: The most frequent non-traumatic surgical pathology in the aforementioned hospital it was acute appendicitis, it was also observed that a third of the patients were in an age range between 21-30 years, the majority were female and acute appendicitis in the necrotic phase was the most frequent within the complications treated during this period.

Conclusions: Of the sample reviewed, it was observed that about half of the patients treated presented some type of complications, with appendicitis in the necrotic phase being the main complication.
