Introduction: cerebrovascular disease (CVS) is the main cause of acquired disability. Although the simple brain computed tomography (CT) remains the recommended image for initial evaluation. The use of CT perfusion allows establishing the core of the infarct and the potentially salvageable surrounding area. This article presents a case report with a diagnosis of acute cerebral stroke through perfusion tomography.
Clinical case: 63 – year – old male, with multiple comorbidities, presented with acute clinical symptoms of left facial paralysis and left brachial monoparesis. The CT findings in the perfusion modality concluded the diagnosis of acute cerebral stroke. The patient received intravenous thrombolytics with improvement in the symptoms.
Conclusion: radiologists have a key role in the management of acute stroke. The tomographic protocol must include the sequences: simple, perfusion and angiography, to achieve an early diagnosis and consequently a better prognosis for patients.
Keywords: cerebral disease, brain perfusion tomography.
