Abstract

This article deals with the theoretical work on artistic anatomy of the outstanding baroque painter Carlo Cesi, who we must place at the dawn of the didactics of this discipline. As an educator he was able to transfer the essential knowledge of the guild practice of the Roman workshops and botteghe to the halls of the Accademia di San Luca, of which he was one of the most celebrated professors. The history of art reminds him particularly of being the writer of some primers for learning to draw and pedagogical treatises that reveal a great closeness to the students when it comes to facilitating the understanding of concepts.
