The manuscript Albun de Piesas, Balses y Polxas, Areglado para guitarra por MAC (1855), written by the Cuenca musician Manuel Antonio Calle (1832 - 1887) and compiled by the musicologist Carlos Freire, in 1997, shows us a moment of singular importance of Cuenca music, relevant in the history of the guitar in Ecuador and highly referenced in historical and musicological texts. This moment lacked musicographic documents that would allow the dimensioning of the specific products of the musical dynamics of Cuenca in the 19th century, which had one of its main instruments on the guitar, and from which Albun de Piesas, Balses y Polxas (1855) is a reference document. The present work attempts to explore the data that emerges from the document, at the historical, musical and guitar level. This is to frame the manuscript in its conditions of creation, for a pertinent understanding of it
