The artistic discipline of design under present scenarios

Design has the ability to transform contemporary society, this is our interest. Thus, talking about the artistic discipline of design forces us to rethink what real and necessary responses can be brought from that discipline to a liquid and global world. Through different editions, ESDAP Catalunya (Higher School of Design and Visual Arts) tries to keep the pulse of these issues, giving entrance to concepts such as: transparency and privacy, identity management, dissent, media hybridization, mediation and design, open source, or transformation of the learning space. The following communication aims to make a tour of some of the conclusions obtained throughout the last BDW editions, as well as to shed light on a series of projects and actions impregnated with a critical sense in the artistic practice of design and taken by people as active beings in the process.
