Marginal effects of tourism, gender and biodiversity on the local economic development of the Santiago Basin, Baja California Sur

The study analyzes the marginal effects of tourism, gender and biodiversity on local economic development, using discrete choice models (Logit and Probit) in the Santiago Basin, municipality of Los Cabos, Baja California Sur. The marginal effects of variables associated with business activity, associativity, perceptions of tourism, environmental impact and gender equity are estimated. The research is based on the theory of endogenous development, with an innovation system approach that recognizes tourism as an economic engine, gender equity as an axis of inclusion and biodiversity as a strategic resource. The methodology applied is quantitative-descriptive of cross-sectional, using the questionnaire as a research instrument. The results show that the positive perception of tourism increases the probability of recognizing local economic benefits; that gender variables are related to the perception of equal opportunities for entrepreneurship and that age, income, sex, and schooling influence the perception of the environmental impact of economic activities in La Ribera, Miraflores, and Santiago.
