Information For Authors

Basic concepts.-

 

The editorial policy of the journal, requires that the evaluation of the articles must be done by the system of “double blind pairs”, where at least two anonymous coaches will prepare reports of each article sent to the journal; the maximum period of review will be three months.

 

The journal has four sections: i) Research Articles; ii) Opinion, as well as national and regional situation articles; iii) Articles of undergraduate and graduate students; and, iv) Reviews of other publications (special format).

 

The articles of the first three sections must have a minimum extent of 4.000 words (approximately 12 pages if you select space and a half) and it must not exceed 7.000 words (approximately 21 pages if you select space and a half) including notes and bibliography. The maximum of graphics must be of five pages included in the text.

 

Each article must include: title, as well as an abstract in Spanish and its translation in English (Abstract). Eventually, it must include a maximum of 5 keywords of the document in Spanish and its translation in English (Keywords).

 

Delivery.-

 

The authors interested on publishing in the IURIS Journal, must complete the electronic an electronic copy of the article to the editorial email address: revista.iuris@ucuenca.edu.ec; as well as, a letter declaring that the article has not been offered to another journal or book (in paper or in a digital form), nor it is accessible in a public webpage. Moreover, the author must indicate in the letter the count of words (including the notes and bibliography) of the article.

 

The article must be sent in an electronic form in Microsoft WORD (.doc,.docx). The graphics (images, tables, photography, graphics, etc.) must be sent separated in its original format. The articles must not include any type of information about the author or authors. Furthermore, the author must omit (at least during the evaluation stage) any section of the text (like citations) that could identify the author or authors.

 

The author must send separated, a page with general information, that must contain the title of the article, the names and last names of each author, the institutional affiliation of each author, and the electronic address of the main author. The title must be included in the top of the first page of the article, as well as the pages of the text must be numbered.

 

The files sent must be identified with the name of the main author and the date (for instance: Arango210414.doc and Arango210414.jpg – that means Arango 21 de abril de 2014).

 

It is necessary to avoid the inclusion of comments in the text or in the appreciation that could reveal the identity of the author, until the final acceptance of the article.

 

FORMAT

 

Text.-

 

The format of the text must be: a space and a half (1.5), size 12, style Times New Roman, except for the title that must be in size 14 and bold, the top, lower, left and right margins of 2,54 cm each one.

 

The author must use just one type of text, although bold and italics can be used where it is necessary. The author can use two level of subtitles, the first in bold and the second in italics, both aligned to the left, in separated line in lower case letters (with capital letter just for the first letter and for proper names). The titles and the paragraphs must be in a space and a half like the rest of the text, each new paragraph must be with indentation.

 

The citation and references must be in APA style.

 

The page with the title of the article must include the names and last names of each author, and the electronic address of the main author. The title must be in the top of the first page of the text, and the pages must be numbered. The author cannot use embedded macros, special reference programs, or other special format that can be lost in the conversation of the files. The words and phrases used in another language different to Spanish (that have not been adopted in the norms of the Royal Spanish Academy) must be written in italics.

 

Abstract.-

 

The abstract must synthetize the purpose of the article and its main conclusions. Its maximum extent must be 250 words and must be located under the title of the article in the first page of the text. It must include four keywords (lower case letters) in a separated line after the abstract.

Additionally, it must contain its translation to English.

 

Footnotes.-

 

Footnotes must be used only in cases strictly justified.

 

References.-

 

The IURIS Journal uses the rules of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA), that includes citations in the text with the last name of the authors and the year of the publications, either into parenthesis or not, and if the citation is direct, the citation into quotation marks if it has less than 40 words, or if it has more than 40 words, the citation must be without quotation marks in a separated paragraph with French indentation, this with the number(s) of the page(s); for example (Ayala, 1987, p.45). The list with complete references must appear in a new page after the text, in alphabetic order taking into account the last name of the author and the year of the publication of each author into parenthesis. The titles of every book and journal must be complete and not abridged.

Tables.-

 

Every table must be cited and discussed into the text. The text in these ones must be in size 12 (like the rest of the text) in Garamond. The tables must be enumerated consecutively and must have a title included in the top of the table (for example: Charter 5: Basic information). The tables must not be in the format of images.

 

Graphics.-

 

The maps, graphics and photos will be sent in a digital format and must be discussed into the text and cited only like “Figures”. These figures must be in high quality (minimum resolution of 600 dpi) in their original format (for example, .jpg, .tiff, .png, .ai). The figures cannot be sent set in Word format (.doc, .docx). We prefer graphics produced with Ilustrator.

 

The figures must be enumerated consecutively (Figure 1: Title). We ask a list of the complete titles of the illustrations (maps/photos) in a separated page and after the bibliography.

 

UNIQUE DELIVERY

 

Under no circumstances any manuscript can be sent to the IURIS Journal while it is considered to be published in any other type of publication.

 

RIGHTS

 

If the manuscript has contents protected by authors rights, it must be obtained and sent to the Publisher the corresponding permissions to use by a letter of the owner of the material. Once it is accepted and published, the rights of the article will belong to the IURIS Journal.
