Licence and copyright agreement

MASKANA publishes two editions per year, in June and December. Currently, starting from August 14, 2023, it is distributed exclusively in digital format. The ISSN (International Standard Serial Number) for the online journal is: e-ISSN 2477-8893. For its online production, the Open Journal Systems platform is used, which is an open-access journal management system. Printed editions of MASKANA were published from December 2010 (Vol. 1, No. 1) to December 2015 (Vol. 6, No. 2). The ISSN for the print journal is: p-ISSN 1390-6143.

License Agreement and Copyright (Authorship Rights)

The following license and copyright agreement apply to any article submitted from August 14, 2023 onwards.

Authors retain the copyright of the article.

• Authors grant the Vice-Rectorate of Research of Universidad de Cuenca (VIUC) an irrevocable non-exclusive license to publish the article electronically and in print format, and to identify themselves as the original editor.
• Authors grant commercial rights to the Vice-Rectorate of Research of Universidad de Cuenca (VIUC) to produce printed volumes of the journal for sale to libraries and individuals, if the Editorial Team deems it necessary.
• Authors grant any third party the right to use the article freely as long as the original authors are identified and citation details are provided.
• Only in special cases, where the author wishes to transfer authorship rights to an institution, such as their company or workplace, refer to the section on copyright transfer (please see below). Articles are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0) license, unless otherwise indicated.

You are free to:

	Share — copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format.
	Adapt — transform, and build upon the material

Under the following conditions:

	Attribution — You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. You may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests the licensor endorses you or your use.
	Non-commercial — You may not use the material for commercial purposes.
	Share Alike — If you transform, or build upon the material, you must distribute your contributions under the same license as the original.

No additional restrictions: You may not apply legal terms or technological measures that legally restrict others from doing anything the license permits.

Notices:

You do not have to comply with the license for elements of the material that are in the public domain or where your use is permitted by an applicable exception or limitation.

No warranties are given. The license may not give you all of the permissions necessary for your intended use. For example, other rights such as publicity, privacy, or moral rights may limit how you use the material.

Reproduction Requests:

All articles published by MASKANA on behalf of the Vice-Rectorate of Research of Universidad de Cuenca have been licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0) license since August 14, 2023 (see details above) or under its earlier version 3.0 from 2010-2017 and Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 License from 2017 to July 2023. Under these licenses, authors retain copyright. It is not necessary for the editor to allow/confirm a reproduction. We suggest contacting the authors to inform them about the additional use of the material. In any case, authors must be credited.
