Dr. Wouter Buytaert is an associate professor in hydrology and water resources of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Imperial College London, London, United Kingdom. The scientific activities of Dr. Buytaert are focused on the effects of human activity on the hydrological processes of ecosystems. His main area of ​​research deals with the effects of land use change and climate change on high mountain hydrology, with a geographical focus on the Andes and the Himalayas. He has installed and coordinated field experiments and monitoring in several countries in the tropical Andes, including the implementation of an international network of participatory monitoring of water resources in Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia. It is also dedicated to the development of hydrological models and decision support systems in the field of the impact of changes in land use and climate change on hydrology. He leads projects in Europe, Latin America, Africa and Asia. Dr. Buytaert obtained his PhD from the University of Louvain, Belgica, and held positions at the Universities of Lancaster and Bristol.
