Dr. Alonso, retired, has 39 years of experience in the field of the environment. It specializes in the natural environment, in particular in water management and limnology of wetlands, lakes, reservoirs and rivers. In the first stage of his career he devoted himself to university teaching and to research in the Faculty of Biology at the University of Barcelona. The second stage of his career, which began thirty years ago at United Research Services (URS) as General Director of the Barcelona Office and as European coordinator for the area of ​​Limnology of the same company, has been dedicated to professional environmental consulting services participating and/or directing more than 200 projects of inventory, classification, diagnosis, and treatment and recovery of reservoirs, rivers, lakes and wetlands. For the last six years he has been working in the Department of Ecology of the Faculty of Biology of the University of Barcelona as an external collaborator and lately he has worked as a PROMETEO researcher for the Government of Ecuador at the State University of Cuenca. He is the author of more than fifty articles published in international journals and a monographic book on the Iberian Branchiopoda. He has been a speaker at numerous seminars and specialized courses. He was editor for 4 years of the scientific journal of the Iberian Association of Limnology and is currently associate editor of the scientific journals Zootaxa and Taprobanica, and a member of the editorial committee of the Journal of Limnology.
