Dental caries remains a major public health challenge that impacts children’s quality of life. The PUFA/pufa index measures the consequences of untreated caries, such as pulpal and periapical lesions. Objective: To investigate the relationship between social determinants of health and the prevalence of the PUFA/pufa index in children attending the Pediatric Dentistry Clinic at ULEAM. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional, observational study was conducted with 100 children aged 5 to 14 years at the Child and Adolescent Clinic during the 2024-1 period. Data on the PUFA/pufa index were collected, alongside surveys assessing pediatric risk factors and social determinants, including income and healthcare access. Results: The PUFA/pufa index was seen in 34 partici- pants. Key risk factors included poor oral hygiene, negative self-perceived oral health, sugar-rich diets, and unmet needs, with low socioeconomic status being most prevalent. Conclusion: Social determinants, particularly economic constraints, are significantly linked to the PUFA/pufa index, as limited awareness of risk factors contributes to caries progression, affecting dental tissues and causing discomfort.
