Abstract

This article reports on a study conducted to determine what factors impact the career aspirations of students in a hospitality management program in a leading university in Ecuador. By means of grounded theory based approach, the study analyzed student opinions about their future careers to determine the factors that led them to decide upon a career in hospitality. Data were collected in sixteen one-on-one interviews with graduating seniors over a two-week period at the end of 2012. The article describes the data collection and analytical processes before presenting both the results and a general “student profile.” It concludes with implications for professional hospitality education in university settings and offers suggestions for future research.
