Abstract

The objective of this research was to explore the attitudes, knowledge and beliefs of adolescents about dating violence. The information was gathered through the development twelve focus groups with male and female adolescents from high schools in the city of Cuenca. The discussion was led from a guide that contained two stories about dating violence cases. Data were analyzed using Thematic Analysis. The results suggest the existence of an inconsistency between the apparent rejection of teenagers towards violence and implicit justification they express with regard to certain situations of violence within the couple. The study shows that although adolescents have knowledge about violence and its risk factors, there is still the presence of myths and beliefs are rooted in thought that justify and normalize partner violence.
