In the context of higher education, academic literacy has become a movement that makes explicit the need of guiding the processes of reading and writing in specific disciplines, and conceiving those processes as institutional practices. From this perspective strategies to support reading and writing are becoming established at Universidad del Valle – Colombia. The aim is to decentralize the issues related to those processes, and placing them in a paradigm of disciplinary reflection. The objective of this paper is to present all the relevant information about two of the current processes that are articulately developing in the institution aforementioned. The first one is the diploma course “Reading and writing at university classroom” addressed the teachers from different faculties of the university since 2013. The second one is the “Support group for reading and writing”, conceived as a strategy for counselling undergraduates in understanding and production of texts. At the end, the main achievements and lessons learned by the implementation of these two alternatives to approach reading and writing are discussed.
