Abstract

This article reports the pilot study conducted at Universidad del Valle derived from the implementation of the diploma program called “La lectura y la escritura en el aula universitaria.” This diploma program has two levels scheduled by the Academic Vice-Presidency as part of the teaching qualification program at Universidad del Valle. The diploma’s purpose is to reflect on the processes of reading and writing in the disciplines in order for teachers from other fields different from language to reconceptualize the epistemic function of reading and writing in university classroom, and take ownership of the matter. This article also reports both the concepts as academic literacy that contribute to the origin of the diploma program, and the diploma program’s objectives, contents and methodology developed in the classroom. That, with the purpose of accompanying teachers from different fields at Universidad del Valle to design and implement proposals to include reading and writing in their courses. At the end, they have the opportunity to share what they discovered and learned from that academic experience which lasts a year and a half.
