Construction of specialized knowledge: the natural history and historiography of the nation in Ecuador in the nineteenth century

For the conformation of the republic and the modern nation, the need was seen to install fields of knowledge linked to history and natural history. The intentions of installing these two areas of knowledge implied a series of actions for their institutionalization, but the economic, social and political situation that the country was going through did not allow the projects to be carried out in the first years of the republic. This paper analyzes the attempts to build specialized knowledge by local intellectuals, scientific travelers in Ecuador during the nineteenth century. From the analysis of the speeches and the projects from a perspective of cultural history, it is intended to reveal the speeches registered in publications of the time and to reveal other interests linked to the construction of specialized knowledge
