Within the framework of Bolívar Echeverría's proposal of multiple modernities characterized by his quadruple ethos, and by understanding the baroque ethos as a form proper to modernity in our America, we propose to think of a baroque subjectivity as resistance and creation in the face of capitalism as a system that homogenizes life. We argue that this baroque subjectivity rehabilitates the capacity of agency of life itself even in the midst of the devastation of the sixteenth century, but that it is also reactivated in times of crisis as a mark of our own subjectivity. We engage in dialogues with the Brazilian Anthropophagic Movement, with Silvia Rivera Cusicanqui and with Boaventura de Sousa Santos in order to stress this baroque proposal.
