This article revisits the works of Gloria Anzaldúa and Roberto Bolaño related to de US-Mexican border in order to discuss Yuliana Ortiz’s novel, Fiebre de carnaval, published in 2022 both in Ecuador and in Spain. This novel has positioned this young writer in a crucial role to understand the current situation in that Ecuadorian province, situated on the Ecuadorian-Colombian border. Moreover, the novel takes place in the late 1990s during the financial collapse that produced the dollarization of the Ecuadorian economy.
