This article considers a key moment in Ecuadorian’s recent history: the cycle of protests that took place in October 2019. This episodes of social protest are crucial to comprehend the current crisis in the Andean country. Almost five years after the events it remains clear that the degradation of Ecuadorian Democracy has had such a devastating effect that transformed this nation into one of the most dangerous in the world. However, this degradation is not to be understood in a political or economical dimension only, but in the symbolic sphere. There’s a representation crisis that is reflected in the cultural realm. A recent book of ecuadorian writer Mónica Ojeda offers a valuable opportunity to reflect on this issues.
