Keywords:

This article shows the advantages of joining the hardware and mobility characteristics of smartphones in the collection of information in extensive geographic locations where internet coverage may or may not exist for the transmission of data. The experiences of an update of customer data for the Water Company of the canton of Pedernales, province of Manabí, Ecuador, using tablets with Android operating system, based on the creation and evaluation of a mobile application, knowledge base and the use of SCRUM as methodology of software development, are presented. Our problem was the slowness in the collection of the data provoked by the manual entry in printed cadastral records and its subsequent digitization in a Geographic Information System implemented in the cloud. Preliminary results indicate that changing the process of data collection using software developed for mobile devices leads us to reduce the times in the information collection in the totality of houses in the city.
