: short readings for shared spaces: the weekly Argentinisches Wochenblatt as a cultural reference of the German-Argentine community

The following essay aims 1) to expose the weekly Argentinisches Wochenblatt as an ethnic institution capable of operating as a cultural reference within the German-speaking community in Argentina, and 2) to investigate the forms of appropriation of the weekly by its readers during the years 1945-46. For this purpose, we will not consider the editorial sections or the political columns of the weekly, which clearly mark its political positioning and which have already been studied at length in the field of national and international German studies. On the contrary, we propose to focus on those brief spaces and columns that function as communicational vessels between a large number of German-speaking readers distributed throughout Argentina and that are able to operate as ways of forming an imagined community and a collective identity among them.
