The present article discusses the possible mechanisms in which four Ecuadorian novels from the 21st century have commented on one of the most important events of its national history: Dollarization of the economy. This work starts establishing a brief comparison between the financial crises that resulted in the dollarization process in the early 2000s and the 9/11 terroristic events. Later on, the article focuses its attention on the work of four Ecuadorian novelists (Javier Vásconez, Alfredo Noriega, Gabriela Alemán, Leonardo Valencia) and the possible consequences that the dollarization of the economy might have. Finally, this essay rises a number of questions that may guide future investigations.
