Any discussion directed toward the conservation and management of heritage in the city not should focus only at the last fifteen years, inasmuch as the current conservationists in the case of Cuenca were present since the end of the sixties, period from which starts the adoption of different actions aiming at the safeguarding of heritage. In addition, it is important to remember that Cuenca holds three recognitions of Word Heritage: the Historic Centre of Santa Ana de los Ríos de Cuenca, the traditional fabric of the hat of Toquilla straw, and the Qhapac Ñan (Paredones de Molleturo), which implies that efforts should bring together to learn, preserve and enhance not only the heritage property but the whole set heritage (tangible and intangible) of the city.
Keywords: Cuenca, tangible heritage, intangible heritage, safeguarding of heritage.
