Abstract

This paper presents a study of the impact of the integration of medium and large-scale photovoltaic systems in a medium voltage distribution network. A first activity was the development and verification of a real feeder model in DIgSILENT Power Factory, to determine the feeder initial conditions: voltage profile, line loading, technical losses of energy and the contribution of the short circuit current. For the integration of the Photovoltaic System (SFV), a variety of scenarios were developed that cover different levels of penetration and location. For each scenario, 288 unbalanced load flow studies were executed, using the DIgSILENT Programming Language (DPL) and the Newton-Raphson method. The photovoltaic system used is a generic model (0.4 kV/0.5 MVA with an fp = 0.95 in advance) of the DIgSILENT Power Factory program database. Finally, some results of the analysis are discussed, and two mitigation measures are analyzed to address the voltage increase. In addition, the current philosophy of coordination of overcurrent protections in the distribution feeder were evaluated, considering a three-phase fault in a strategic point according to current settings of relays, reclosers and fuses.
