15 years ago, on Wednesday, December 1, 1999, in Marrakech, Morocco, the 23rd meeting of the World Heritage Committee announced that the city of Santa Ana de los Ríos de Cuenca had been admitted to the World Heritage List. The residents of Cuenca celebrated with joy the inscription, and from that moment on, a new and fresh feeling of pride and self-esteem was added to the spirit of the community.
